What does “sustainable fashion” mean to you?
Sustainable Fashion is an element of the fashion industry where the supply chain positively impacts the 3 P’s” People, Planet and Profit. With the current state of the fashion industry, many factors are hidden and the mission of the Sustainable Fashion Movement is to educate consumers on how our fashion is made. Some details hidden from us as consumers include poor working wages for factory workers, the highest rate of pollution and water waste, and use of highly toxic chemicals are overlooked. Sustainable fashion is taking on the responsibility to make sure we are provided a transparent supply chain, that we can know who made our fashion, and that they are treated fairly. That we treat our bodies right by knowing there are less chemicals used in the production of our fashion. That we can all profit from consuming better.
The concept of Workspace Collective as part of the Sustainable Fashion Movement goes beyond the fashion and lifestyle pieces that we create and sell. It’s about a mode of being, questioning and evoking change.
What is your company’s mission?
Workspace Collective is a unique retail + design co-op dedicated to reinventing the boutique shopping experience within the community where customers and designers engage with, learn from and inspire each other. We are committed to curating a lifestyle shop filled with quality apparel, thoughtfully created accessories, and unique home goods, all produced with a sustainable ethos. The fashion and lifestyle products we carry are fair trade, socially driven, upcycled and organic. As an added value, our local designers host workshops, providing them an opportunity to share their design process.
Do you have a 5 or 10-year vision for your company that you could share with us?
Ideally, the concept of Workspace Collective would spread like wild fire and we can facilitate a growing lifestyle that embraces slow fashion, sustainability, and transparent supply chain. I envision the store scaling upward and outward, launching additional stores within the region, and eventually throughout the country, validating that our mission to evoke questioning and change will become the new norm.
Who is your customer?
This one is for the intellectuals, the tastemakers, the artists and global thinkers. The curious ones, the adventurers, the wanderlusters. Those who have a fire in their belly to seek beyond the common. Those who innately have the strong desire to question how and why without hesitation. Those with the limitless yearning to learn and discover. Those are the folks who are my customer.
Is there someone who inspires you and why?
I’m inspired by inspired people. I soak up that energy and project that into my own work and passions, and it helps me to learn and grow, and to surpass my own imaginations. Whether it’s another local business owner in the middle of launching or one of the many designers that I am allowed to engage with, or if I’m listening to a podcast with Simon Sinek or Gwyneth Paltrow – energy is contagious and those with that high energy inspire me.
