How did you come up with the name of your company?
Horses and ponies are my spirit animals. I find them so beautiful, majestic, powerful, and inspiring. And I want women to feel like total babes when they wear my designs!
What is your company’s mission?
PonyBabe is committed to two main goals. First, we want to help women feel comfortable, at ease, and beautiful every day. We do this by using the softest, coziest fabrics available, and designing simple silhouettes that are flattering to differing body types.
Second, we want to help lessen the negative social and environmental impacts of the fashion industry. Our approach is to manufacture domestically in Brooklyn, NY, to use only sustainable textiles, and to source eco-friendly materials (including labels, hangtags, packing materials, and mailers) from small businesses.
What is something you wish people knew about sustainable fashion?
I wish people knew that sustainable fashion is not out of reach. Simple actions like buying less, buying second hand, and mending your clothing can help to green your closet. Ethically made, fair trade items like underwear and T-shirts can even be purchased at Target these days.
Is there someone who inspires you and why?
I am a dedicated yogi and meditator. Angela Farmer and Victor Van Kooten are a great inspiration to me; I appreciate their kindness, wisdom, good humor, and connection to the natural world
Is there anything else you’d like us to know about you or your company?
PonyBabe is raising funds for our first production run; come and check out the campaign on Kickstarter, and pledge your support for sustainable fashion!
