How did you come up with the name of your company?
1×1 came about as we began our manufacturing process over a year ago. I wanted to focus on one style, or concept, at a time with my manufacturers to make sure the end product was what my customer and I would want. Thus the idea of releasing collections “one by one” began. This allows the customer to really process and consider each piece as the brand builds.
What does “sustainable fashion” mean to you?
Designing quality clothes that will last, not fleeting disposable trends.
What inspired you to start a sustainable fashion brand?
I always wanted my company to be made in the USA. When I started sourcing materials for the line I became more educated about the options available to me. It is not easy to find reasonably priced ecologically friendly materials with low minimums for starting companies, but we were fortunate to discover sources who are as interested in sustainability as we are.
What is your company’s mission?
Our mission is to create modern pieces with a unique yet timeless style. This means selecting some of our favorite wardrobe staples and designing and releasing them — one at a time.
Who is your customer?
The designs for 1×1 are inspired by the women I work with — creative individuals who value quality over quantity and are looking for something lasting and unique to reflect their own personal style.
